We have just spotted our Antoinette bed in the new trailer for the film One Day!
Our bed is at 2.12 minutes (the bit where there’s a bit of slap ‘n’ tickle).

Working on our new Spring 2012 bedroom furniture collection we recently spent the day on our Polly’s boat.
It’s quite stunning and situated right next to Canary Wharf.
And the best thing about it is that YOU CAN STAY THE NIGHT THERE! For a mere 90 quid Polly and her husband Mark will put you up in the bow room bedroom (all tongue ‘n groove cladding, gorgeous bedlinen and various finds from their years in the furniture industry) and then feed you a stonkingly good breakfast in the morning. Check it out here.
So, all you City folk, why not give this a go?
Oh yes, and we saw this cool piece of street art on the way.

Driving along last week we saw this superb 3-wheeled beauty blasting its way through town.
We like the way the chap driving it is almost lying down – ideal if you’re a slouch at getting out of bed. x

Here we are in India putting the final touches to part of our new bedroomy furniture range coming out in April.
We’ve opted to use mango wood which is the tree-huggers’ choice since it takes only 8 years to grow. And for most of this time it groans with lovely edible fruit.
As always, we’ve been enjoying the Indian use of English (“Would you Britishers like some suiting?”), incredible warmth and hospitality, and some interesting signage.
More to follow when we get back…..Namaste!

Christmas offices parties, eh? Our office party. We went round the corner to The Supper Club where we ate on giant beds and met some interesting people.
Enough said. x

It’s a funny old place, the world of beds. We stumbled across these the other day. And, er, no, these won’t be influencing our new collections…

Our own Steve, aka Head of Creation (he’s the one here in charge of looking for nice new products and suppliers), is currently out in India. “What kind of hotel room should I get?” he asked. We told him to keep it real and go for something “normal”. Here’s what he got.
Still, at least you know that we’re keeping our costs low so your beds won’t cost the earth either. We’re with you, Steve. Hope you’re not too lonely! x

Yesterday we went to a few new places whose wares we’d been dying to check out for ages. We loved these kilims rugs for their unusually vivid colours.
And this Indian day bed caught our eye which we reckon, given a few twists and changes, could be quite “Sleeproom-y”.
And we rather liked these antique glasses with their double layer of glass sandwiching some air between (sorry, bit hard to see in this photo taken with our slightly cruddy Blackberry camera!).
Then Horace, who’d had fun in this groovy chair for all of 10 minutes, started shouting once again so we went home for a siesta.
Later on we ended up in our favourite Ibizan spot, the Sunset Ashram on the west coast, to smash down some strawberry mojitos, listen to some tunes and watch the sunset. A bit of a daily ritual which is so idyllic that it’s hard for everyone not to take a quick snap. Cheese-tastic. x

We spend a lot of time in Ibiza and we’re now here again. Not just for the laid-back vibe and sunshine: it’s so hot that the air is full of planes like this one dousing forest fires.
But we’re mainly here to get inspiration from all the interesting types the island attracts who love all the styles and craftsmanship you find in Morocco, Bali and India -as well as local Ibizan finds.
Check out this cool wooden bunk bed we saw just now knocked together with old planks.
It might give you the odd splinter or two, but it cuts the mustard nonetheless. We’ll keep putting all our own little finds up here over the coming weeks. Ta ta for now. x

It will come as no surprise to you that here at The Sleep Room we are big bed fans. Big fans, and fans of big beds. We love them all – wooden beds, upholstered beds, contemporary beds, French beds, divan beds… Hey, we even love guest beds. But there’s one kind of bed we just don’t get: Round Beds. How do they work? It’s not that we don’t like them … it’s just that we don’t understand them.
For starters, there’s the linen. Let’s assume you’ve found someone who can make round bedding, but it’s confusing enough trying to put on a duvet cover when you’re a bit sleepy. There’s not one of us here that can imagine trying to get a round duvet into a round duvet cover. And what about the pillows? Where do you put them? How do you decide which edge of the circle is best? And then, once you’ve worked that out, are you left with angular corners flapping over the curved edge of the mattress? These details worry us here at The Sleep Room, they really do.
As if these problems weren’t enough, there is the intimidating heritage of the round bed. Hugh Hefner used to do all of his work from his spinning circular bed at the Playboy Mansion – as recently as last year he described the aforementioned luxury bed as his ‘most treasured possession’ in a Guardian interview. Elvis had a round bed covered in white fur and liked it so much that he gave his one-time girlfriend Ann Margaret one. Alice Cooper was given a round bed by Groucho Marx, but he clearly felt the same as us about it, as he is said to have passed it on to Paul McCartney.
Dean Martin in The Silencers … watch out for the round bed at the end
Maybe it’s that there will never be a bed as good as the one in 1966 spy flick The Silencers that troubles us: in the movie Dean Martin has a round upholstered bed that not only folds up into the wall but moves right across the room and can even transport him to his bathtub. Even Austin Powers’ homage seems beyond insignificant in comparison.
Then again, perhaps we’re just over-thinking things. After all, if there is a round bed out there that is shaped like a delicious burger, how can we not love them? The bed and duvet are the bun, the mattress is the meat and the pillow … well that’s the ketchup. We could learn to love round beds after all.
